A Quick Trip to Stockholm

A Quick Trip to Stockholm

Following a week brimming with thrilling meetings and social events in NYC, my husband and I chose to take a short trip to Stockholm. We were enticed by the prospect of discovering a walkable European city that neither of us had previously experienced, with cooler temperatures and a direct flight from NYC. After weighing a few alternatives, Stockholm stood out as the ideal choice.

**Accommodations**

We decided to stay at two different hotels to enhance our experience. Our initial destination was Ett Hem, a boutique hotel located in Östermalm. This hotel, situated across two townhouses, is decorated with Scandinavian art and design, creating a cozy and welcoming environment. The shared spaces, where guests and staff interact, give it the feel of staying at a friend’s home.

Our second hotel was the recently opened Stadshotell in Södermalm. This hotel resides in a 19th-century building, a recognized historic site, and boasts a courtyard café and a dining area in a former chapel. The combination of historical elegance and contemporary conveniences made our stay unforgettable.

**Explorations**

Our adventures in Stockholm were varied and enriching. We spent a rainy afternoon at the Nationalmuseum, admiring art spanning from the 1500s to the 1900s. At Svenskt Tenn, we were captivated by the vibrant and colorful interiors, picking out gifts for friends and family. The CFHILL art space showcased an impressive exhibit by Alexandre Diop & Keith Haring.

In Södermalm, we stopped by Nitty Gritty, an independent shop, where I discovered a chic denim jacket. The Monteliusvägen walking path offered breathtaking views of Stockholm City Hall and Riddarholmen. We also wandered through the picturesque streets of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town, and observed the Changing of the Guard at The Royal Palace.

**Provisions**

Our culinary adventure in Stockholm was delightful. We dined at Brasserie Astoria, relishing hamachi crudo and white pizza. Riche, a Swedish/French brasserie, provided excellent food and prime people-watching opportunities. Mahalo served a wholesome, plant-based lunch, while Ett Hem offered an unforgettable seven-course dinner.

At Stadshotell, we enjoyed a seasonal dish at the Bistro, followed by cocktails at the bar. Östermalms Market Hall impressed us with its variety of food options. Café Nizza in Södermalm provided delicious French and Italian dishes, while 800 Grader Pizza was perfect for a quick and flavorful lunch.

Café Cuvee delivered a delightful dining experience on our final evening, and Bar Ninja introduced us to Stockholm’s natural wine culture. Alba Vinbar, another inviting wine bar, had a unique assortment of wines. Lastly, Drop Coffee, near Stadshotell, became our favorite spot for outstanding coffee.

Our journey to Stockholm was a delightful mix of exploration, relaxation, and culinary experiences, leaving us with cherished memories.
