Efforts to Journey

Considering everything, the one issue that seems to go unmentioned is the fear. The entirely justifiable fear of not recovering or finding oneself hospitalized with what is referred to as a ‘bad case’. Even while enduring the illness as I compose this article, I cannot impart any sage advice about there being nothing to fear, since none of us truly understand how this illness will impact us and at what stage; even less can anyone provide guidance to others on it. The most unsettling aspect of the entire ordeal is the sensation of utter isolation. Even if you have a robust support network, friends and family who verbally reassure you, it is the anxiety of uncertainty and the reality that you cannot be seen by a medical professional, and if your symptoms worsen at any hour of the night, you are alone until you reach the Covid-19 unit at the general hospital – anything else would violate the guidelines. In any case, based on the statistics, many of you reading this have likely already gone through it and are perhaps recalling exactly how you felt (assuming you adhered to isolation guidelines), and the reality is that no matter how fluffed your pillows are, how steaming your tea might be, or how many outings you can afford or forgo, health must always take precedence. Perhaps this piece is more appropriate for my health & fitness section, but since it stemmed from a canceled trip, it will stay here. My journey to Covid-19 isolation has once again reminded me that we are all in this together, regardless of our appearances. Stay healthy and resilient! xxx
